Adding curbside appeal

Revamping the front of your home is more than just improving the aesthetics of your space; adding curbside appeal to your landscape can actually add to the value of your property and bring in your asking price should you decide to sell. We are full of ideas to add curb appeal to your property and transform a dull landscape into the prettiest front yard on the block

Hardscaping

In addition to concrete, stones and bricks are also quite popular when it comes to hardscaping. These materials are each beneficial in their own rights and work to achieve certain looks or ‘atmospheres’ within the scope of your landscaping projects. I’m a sucker for river rock and the old ocean side cottage feel that this can add to landscaping. Others prefer bricks and an Italian countryside feel to their landscaping. Whatever your preference there is hardscaping material that can assist you in accomplishing your landscaping goals.

Wood however, will always remain my personal favorite. There is something about wood that says this place is home and it is comfortable and lived in. You can use anything from old railroad lumber to logs for to encourage a very rustic look with your hardscaping. Wood also allows you the opportunity to use barrels and picnic tables at will with your landscaping and feel absolutely no guilt or remorse for doing so. Wood to me is the most inviting and natural of all landscaping materials and truly creates the feeling of an outdoor oasis.

The important thing to remember when you are planning your landscaping and hardscaping project is that you are the only one that can recognize and implement your vision. Be creative and have fun but remember that you will be the one living in that space so make it truly and uniquely your own.

Compliment your home

Hardscaping is very popular in modern landscape designs and can compliment your home and coordinate with your plantings. Most homes today that are highly rated on curb appeal have at least two or three hardscaping elements incorporated into their design.

One popular design for backyard hardscaping is a courtyard. This is an example of how hardscaping can add additional outdoor living space, as well as luxury and convenience to your home.

When it comes to hardscaping as do it yourself projects, it is usually best to tackle jobs that are small and simple enough to do it a weekend, such as adding a walkway of rocks or a border of bricks. For a larger-scale job, a professional who specialized specifically in hardscaping can help you chose the right elements and materials that will work best with your climate, grading and the amount of durability that will be needed.

Never heard of the term before but hardscaping

You may have never heard of the term before but hardscaping refers to the part of your landscaping that is non-living. This includes driveways, stone walkways, patios, and even wood decks. Concrete, stones, and bricks can also be a part of hardscaping. Also, fences, arbors, gazebos, and retaining walls can be considered part of your hardscaping. You can use boulders when designing your landscape projects and these would be considered hardscaping. Even the stones you use when building a koi pond in your yard are considered hardscaping.

Deciding on what kind of Hardscape to use in your landscape will be up to you. It will depend on what kind of look or atmosphere you want your yard to have. You are only limited by your creativity and your pocketbook. You can use Hardscapes to create many different themes to your yard. You can have an oriental theme with koi ponds and bonsai plants. You can create an ocean feel to your yard with loose stone or wood walkways. Then there is the wilderness or woodland feel you can bring to your yard. You can build a stone campfire, a wooden picnic table, or even use old barrels. The possibilities are endless.

These are all examples of small scale hardscaping. Hardscaping can also be on a large scale in cities. Hardscaping in an urban sense can be paving roads and streets. It can be large business complexes and even housing developments.

Local contractors are banding together to survive the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Their organization, Designer Properties, gives homeowners a way to find reliable local trades people for Home improvement projects…..

Designer Properties is your entry into our local contractor referral network. We are local builders, trades people as well as building and home improvement suppliers who have worked together for many years. Many of us know each other; we have worked together, referred work to each other, and called on each other for help with projects over the years.  We are local and want to build our community.

Most of us work by referral and only advertise here. You don’t build up a strong referral base for your business overnight.  It takes a solid track record over a long period of time to earn the trust of customers.  We all know our reputation depends upon the quality and cost of our work.
